Luxembourg - Dolly Goolsby

We have a sunny day and Internet connection, so all is well. We have had a couple of rainy days, but the rain was intermittent, so we were still able to enjoy ourselves.

On Sunday, we took a bus trip back to Luxembourg, one of the smallest countries in the European Union. We visited the American Military Cemetery outside Luxembourg City, then we went to the German Military Cemetery, which is just 0.9 km from the American, but was established after WWII to lay those soldiers to rest as well.

German soldiers were buried 2 to a marker: one above and one below. As you can see, these were very young men. There are over 10,000 German soldiers buried here. Sad to think that so many young men on both sides died because of the insanity of Hitler. We must learn from those mistakes and never let that happen again.

After those somber experiences, we continued into Luxembourg City, where we were taken on a walking tour by a local guide. The city is very beautiful, lots of old trees, several old buildings, but most of the city is newer, more modern.

We had a very lovely, long day, and returned to our ship just before dinner time, to find out, those who had stayed behind went into the village of Zell, where there was a wine festival going on, with a parade, wine tastings, food, everything! I was sorry we missed that, but not sorry that I got to see Luxembourg, another country where I had not been before.

Zell, by the way, is known for its white wine, called Zeller Swartzkatte. (The black cat.). I remember that the wine was one that we drank way back in the 1960\0x2032s. I remember that we liked it then but we also liked Lancer’s, Mateus, Blue Nun, Lambrusco, all wines we never drink anymore.

We sailed away from Zell Sunday evening, and came to the first stop on the Rhine River early in the morning. We were sad to leave the Mosel River area, as it is so beautiful and so peaceful.

But more adventures await us on the Rhine. So, until next blog post,

Auf wiedersehn,

Dolly
